I agree with this. I also think the white kids should have been expelled from the school instead of suspended, and perhaps charged with enciting a riot (do they do that?).

I object to trying kids as adults, however, and I think the charges of attempted murder sound extreme. It sounds like assault and battery to me, and the punishment should be whatever is standard for a teenager convicted of assault and battery.

I don't feel bad for the white boy, though, if he was one of the boys that instigated the whole mess.

I like the south... My great-great-grandfather fought for the Confederacy, but that's not why I like the south. A lot of southerners simply have a lot more common sense than northerners (I mean middle class southerners). Northerners like to make fun of southerners for being "slow", but a lot of southerners are just more deliberate in their thinking and aren't as hasty

I think there is not enough information on what actually happened to the white kid for us to make a judgement here. Basically, there needs to be some testimony as to whether or not anyone was really trying to kill him.

Personally, I don't think beating up a white kid for calling you a nigger in a taunting way is unjustified. But I'm confused as to whether one black kid beat up on the guy or a mob of 6 tried to stomp him out.

i think what is a bigger deal than racist, interpersonal violence is the racism that's embedded in our policies and/or reinforced by old, racist laws.

People need to stop bitching about racism and crying like little bitches. How many times in high school did I hear kids saying how much they hate wops and making fun of Italians, all in front of the teachers who didn't really give a shit (my school had a big Italian population)? Now if they were making fun of black people they would be suspended. Black kids can make fun of white kids and get away with it. What upsets me is the double-standard. I like how people try to downplay the discovery of America. People say shit like "Oh Columbus didn't discover America, Native Americans were already there!". ****ing retards getting hung up on details. He made both continents aware that the other existed. That's pretty ****ing huge any way you look at it. But now people say it was a stupid accident because he thought he landed in asia. Most great discoveries are made on accident, that fact that he proved there was land west of Europe was huge enough in itself.

And now they teach kids about how ruthless Columbus and his buddies were. There is nothing Columbus did to the Native Americans that Europeans hadn't done to eachother, or the Native Americans hadn't done to eachother. They teach us how savage and cruel Columbus was, and how sweet the Native Americans were. Who the **** performed the ritual sacrifices where people had their hearts riped out while they were alive and thousands of people forced into huge holes in the ground, the Aztecs or Columbus?

Why the hell can't people just STOP feeling SORRY for themselves? It's not even THEY who were wronged (if anyone was), it was their great-great-great-great grandfather. Get over it

The reality is that it does revolve around racism. And that seems to be what sells. Okay, maybe they'd be on trial, but it wouldn't have made national news, is what I should have said. Then again, I've had little faith in the "system" because of my own personal experience ... many of the oldies remember the issue I faced a couple of years back (I think I deleted all of those old posts ...) ... I personally don't pay much attention to what's going on with the JENA 6 thing because I just watch my own ass most of the time. But it will always be "whites vs. <insert race>" ...

As far as affirmative action goes... I don't believe in it. There was a good point made in "American History X" about firemen getting jobs because of their race and not because they were more qualified. I do believe that being better suited for a job should be the case. There's an academic high school in my area that, because of of affirmative action, requires Asian students to achieve a higher test score to be accepted. I think that's bullshit.
