I think the best kind is one that has meaning. I always thought a family heirloom ring would be really nice, but I get that not everyone has something like that (my parents don't have rings, for instance). The material really doesn't matter.

Why the **** do people care so much about a hunk of metal that could potentially get sucked down the drain during their days of washing dishes in the kitchen?

I don't even care about getting a ring. It would just get in the way. maybe I could just get a tattoo instead lol.

My ring is white gold and I love it. I really don't care what it's made of anyway.

I wouldn't want a really expensive ring because it would eat at my soul if I lost it. I knew someone who left their $30K ring on the sink in a public washroom. She didn't get it back.

I've been reading some threads on engagement rings and it seems to be a "hot topic." Buying an engagement ring can be tough. What should an engagement ring be made from? This is an important question for many. So I've done some research on platinum and would like to share it with you. Personally, I am a newly-wed and when shopping for my engagement ring I chose platinum for many reasons.
Engagement rings often have very valuable diamonds and platinum holds precious gems securely. Platinum jewelry is the perfect choice for a lifetime of everyday wear as it loses little metal over time. It does not tarnish or fade. In fact it retains its color and keeps its brilliant natural white luster. The physical density of platinum gives it substance and a luxurious weight that denotes quality.
Platinum is 30 times more rare than gold, which means that one will be getting or giving something exceptional that not everyone can possess. 14k gold is a mix of 58% pure gold and 42% non-precious metal. 18k gold is 75% pure. Platinum, palladium, titanium and tungsten are all at least 90-95% pure, but of these metals, only platinum and palladium are considered precious. As we know Prices of all metals fluctuate according to supply in the market and demand by consumers. The more pure and precious a metal, the more limited its availability tends to be. Scarcity drives demand, making a metal like platinum more likely to maintain its intrinsic value over time.
Platinum is far superior than other metals. This is why I chose to buy my wife a platinum engagement ring. Something as important as an engagement ring that has great sentimental meaning deserves to be nothing but the finest.
She simply loves it and would not change it for anything else!

My wedding was tiny & I don't have an engagement ring. My wedding band is a plain, gold band.

We were saving to buy our first house & it seemed like a waste of money. I'm a jewelers nightmare.

Luckily I found an engagement ring that my wife and I both loved at an affordable price. It wasn't anything flashy rather quite simple. Platinum isn't to be associated with expensive because there are so many styles and different bands. You can always find something that is in your budget range. Good Luck bud!

I lost my original engagement & wedding rings, and replaced them with a plain gold band. The only reason I care about losing my original set now is that I would have loved to give it to my daughter when she is older. She finds symbolic things like that very meaningful.

my past experiences: returned my engagement ring, out of respect to my ex. advised him to give it to his next victim so to say. he appreciated the thought, and i felt better about making that move.

also, once you get married and start having kids you might find that money useful for other things than wasting it on a piece of jewelry.

I prefer white gold or platinum since I'm not a huge fan of yellow gold or yellow period. I'm just weird like that. It doesn't have to be a super expensive ring just the fact that it's symbolic of your relationship is something I would treasure. Also you can't buy a super expensive engagement ring since wouldn't you be afraid to wear it everyday if it was really expensive? I wore a $20 CAD promise ring for years and loved it.

    I was being sarcastic.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that someone would pay so much money for something as unpractical as an expensive ring.

I like the symbolism of a ring. I don't really care about the rock (except as an heirloom), but the ring? It's nice.

Long after the music’s stopped, the cake is gone, and the flowers have wilted, your platinum wedding bands will be an enduring reminder of the moment you expressed your love to one another. Be sure to take plenty of time to select the designs you both love. Your wedding bands are meant to last a lifetime, so Platinum is the ideal choice.

LOL, this sounds like an ad for a jewelry store.

Man, you're either a troll looking to promote your business or you have been spending waaaay too much time thinking about this.

But I fixed your post for you.
