Well if you want to talk about the best tool for measuring grades, you have to speak on not only a national level, but an international level. Not just your little nook.

And on a personal level, I went to several different schools throughout my life, in both large cities and rural areas. Probably 8-9 in total.

Oh blubber. Calling me jealous, because I believe the education system is wrong? That's your close minded attitude, I guess.

I just believe there is a better modus operandi for education. I'm not discrediting students for their hard work.

Oh yes, 16-year olds are completely capable of deciding their entire future.

I am not sure the point you are trying to make. I am not comparing entire populations of kids. I was commenting on my opinion of the value of grades.

Lipp - you mean to tell me you didn't know any kids who knew in high school they wanted to be doctors, lawyers, teachers, whatever? We've got a number of high school kids in the hospital where I work doing volunteer work so they can have something to stick on their medical school applications. Of course, not all kids can make this decision at 16 or 17, but there are some that do. My husband knew he wanted to be a chemist in Jr. High.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Wow...my high school would actually put you on a probation period if you ever got below a 2.0. Basically you had one semester to get over a 2.0. If you didn't they would kick you out.

Right now I've got a 3.5...engineering sucks balls.

Much of it was just how school was, lectures, notes, homework and tests.

I'd fall asleep in class all the time.

Once while sitting in chemistry in an attempt to stay awake and kept saying in my mind "stay awake, stay awake, stay awake". Then I woke up.

I was never keen on homework either, I just didn't do it.

Even with a subject I'm interested in, just a few months ago the boss was holding his own classes on electricity.

I really wanted to learn more about it, but on day one he called me out for dozing off.

Now, I just built a circuit board (complete with a plug to test it) to learn on my own.

I've always learned better with hands on.

I'll post pictures of my board soon, I'm kind of proud of it.

Your school would kick you out for passing?

Uh...a 2.0 is a C. Below a 2.0 is considered D range. That isn't passing. Or at least my school didn't consider it passing. My grades were never that low in high school. I think I graduated with a 3.4 or something.

As for circuits boards I made...I've made two. The first one was a CMOY pocket amplifier I did in an Altoids tin. It worked for about a year but I think a few of the solders cracked from being tossed around. Haven't gotten around to fixing it. My second one was a heart Valentines card I made for my ex. It had over 100 leds that would flash. Had a green border, red heart in the middle. Then in yellow it said I Love You. The original diagram called for it to be run off of I think 12V DC from a wall socket, but I did a few calculations, changed resistance values and didn't use as many LED's and ran it off of a 9V battery.

I didn't even realize how many high schools were on the 4.0 system until I left my high school. Apparently mine was, but nobody EVER said what they got on that scale. I have no idea what I even had
I always just associated the 4.0 scale with college

Wow, you guys are making me feel a lot better about high school. I graduated with a 3.4 GPA and I literally slept in some classes.

Don't worry though, I am making up for lost time in college by seeing how bad I can bomb my GPA ~_~

    A C- is below a 2.0.

And a D is still passing. Unless you went to a private school. I'm curious as to which school you went to because I'd like to see why they'd be failing and kicking kids out of a public high school (if it was public) for having a nationally passing grade.

3.87 cumulative at my high school, which is actually a college prep school.

And yes, I also hate school.

I don't mind that my GPA was only 2.7.

It can only climb so high when you don't turn in any homework.
