Actually Eco, its the only real way to live and its not bitter. You just don't understand fully what that statement means. You are solely responsible for your own happiness. This has always been true and always will be. Angst is caused when people forget this basic fact of life.

i suppose it depends to what extent you apply that idea to your life.

I'm a lot farther along on the experience curve from you, is all. I think you'd be a lot happier (e.g. regards your parents) if you could understand and adopt what I'm saying.
