I feel like nowadays being an "alpha" anything, relates more to job skill. Especially since most jobs don't require you to beat competition into submission or death.
I'm more alpha than many of the men who I manage. In the workplace, anyway.

I hate to break it to you, but they probably let you. It's not exactly a wise career move to challenge your boss's authority. lol
The alpha is the one who everyone respects the most.
They're not necessarily the one who is liked the most... as affinity and respect are separate things.
