I wouldn't move anywhere that is costly.
Especially SF. With the climate and weather disasters you spend more money repairing things than adding on. I would move someplace where you can make a healthy investment.

Real estate in SFO is a VERY healthy investment overall... IF you can afford to get in. That real estate is 2nd only to NYC, so far as I know. However, a lot of people live in neighboring communities and commute in to SFO.

There are plenty of suburbs in the San Francisco Bay Area that can accommodate a lot of different income levels.

I don't recall the last time I felt an earthquake ... but be aware that we are due for a doozy.

Overall, SF is pretty laid back ... It's not "high density" as Indi put it. It's not like we're overcrowded. But like I said, suburbs are a beautiful thing. SFO is actually in the San Bruno area which isn't even part of the main area of SF ...

But let me put it this way ... a lot of people move to or around here for a reason. And many are here for the long haul. There has to be a reason for that.

The town I graduated high school from had 1,500 people.

The town I grew up in had half a million people.

I'm really hesitant about San Francisco. I'm not big on California to start, but throw in a bad economy, high cost of living. I'm going to have to talk this over with my bud.

I had some savings 2 years ago, but I blew that on my lemon of a car. I don't think I'd last too long in a foreign place without any kind of local support.
