And she even implied the size is sort of matters.. If I don't get a good ring- then what does that say for the rest of the relationship or marriage... It predicts bad things! ...
LMAO!!! And you believe her...right?? lol

I'd say it was more a sign of 'bad' things to come, that Miss Materialistic wants a huge stone, rather than be looking firstly to what it signified.

I bet she wants a huge engagement party too and for the sake of getting presents.

I actually really like the ring you bought! It's simple but beautiful
and I agree with the posters above, the size shouldn't matter...

Whatever happened to the phrase 'its the thought that counts'

Not being rude here but, if this woman wanted to marry you because she truely loves you (and for all the right reasons) then wether you spend £1000 or £10 on a ring it shouldnt matter. Yes, its always nice to have a nice engagement ring on your finger but I can honestly say I'd have been happy with whatever my Fiance gave me because he picked it. It was his time and effort that went into it and that means more to me than money.

...its kind of like your parents buying you a car, say a small VW Polo or something, and you being pissed off you weren't given a V2 Hummer or Porche 911. its rude, ungrateful, completely non-related to the meaning, and nothing to do with marriage. (that analogy KIND of works )

SAYING THAT, i think its all about individual means. for example, if you were a millionaire and you got you GF a ring from Tesco's Direct then i think she has a right to be pissy, as potentially it shows how much you don't really care, (in the same way as getting a shitty crap bunch of flowers from the petrol station wouldn't mean as much as a nice bunch from the Florists)

my point seems jumbled, but i know what i mean. if theres thought and caring behind it, and you've not specifically being a cheap skate then you'll be fine.

It depends on what you can afford. If you have $100, a $40 ring would mean a great deal. It's not really about the size...it's about how much heart you put into it.
Don't go into debt over it. Don't over-spend. Just buy a nice shiny one that expresses your love.

Based on your experiece Kaius, I'll have to add don't spend more than confort no matter what you can afford. That's what you did and you were later resentful over it.

Size is *nice* but I'd agree with Fras it has absolutely no correlation on how successful your marriage is. If that were true, how the hell are celebs always getting divorced? Their rocks are bloody huge!
I was leading up to this point, but I was trying to draw him out.

Your soon to be wife: is a superficial and shallow/poor excuse for a fiance. That's the answer. (Was that a typo: you said BF) ?

    Let me ask you something...
Are you a son of a Rockafeller? No?
If you buy her a ring: IT (no matter the size) is supposed to be a symbol of your love...not a ****ing gauge to accurately measure "HOW MUCH" you love someone.

She is the kind of woman I can't stand.
    I feel sorry for you.

She wants to show the ring off on facebook or to all of her friends because
I suspect her friends all got bigger rings.
