Whilst l sympathise, this is the wrong attitude to have and a stupid thing to say.

If you read through the forums you will see this kind of thing happens just as much to guys, if not more often.

The fact that he didn't have the guts to tell you himself, after nearly two weeks of ignoring your calls/messages, shows that he is not a man at all; he's a coward and a prick, and you're better off without him.
