I actually see the OP's point... she doesn't want him to become a crybaby or something, she is just asking for more emotional intimacy. Which I think is a huge part in any healthy relationship. I love a guy who is strong and masculine with everybody else, but sometimes emotionally opens up with me.

With the exception that I like my guy as he is... he is as I described. Strong and cold on the outside, warm and sweet on the inside, which he only shows to me. We were actually best friends for 2 years and a half before we started dating, and we still are.

i agree, searock. i think she's asking a valid question. i think in time, as you guys spend more time together, different aspects of this guy will show themselves. some of us take a while to show vulnerability, some of us just don't need to. i think if you are otherwise happy, and have made it clear in a non-critical way that you want him to know you can be there for him if he does ever want to open up, then you can keep moving forward together.
