i used to deliver newspapers for the San Francisco Chronicle when I was 11 ... it paid me $76 every 2 weeks ... $76 for an 11 y/o to wake up at 4AM to wait for the delivery truck and fold 50+ newspapers and deliver them up and down hills with a big ass bag ...

I agree with the ex-telemarketters ... i did a stint when i was 17 (in 1997) ... and it paid me $8/hr ... which was a good price way back then ... and it prepares you for bullshit professional talk in the future ...

but Alyssa would do just fine as a waitress ... tips just kick ass ...

I don't know where you Steve, but maybe you can also try volunteer at aquariums and stuff.

I had a lot of odd jobs in my teen years... tobacco prevention peer leader (where I got paid a crappy 5.50/hr) But it was fun, we gave presentations at all sorts of places.

Then, I tried to get a volunteer position at an aquarium. They wouldn't accept me as a volunteer, but I did get a job as a teen educator, another crappy 5.50/hour. Outreach again. Whale research intern, super cool, we went out on boat rides to study whales.. aquarist assistant, counselor supervisor.. (where wage finally jumped to 9.50/hr)

Now, I'm just a boring accountant. eurggh...

I agree fras! Volunteering is cool. You learn so many new things, make so many new friends, and usually for good causes.
