I have the same problem as well, resulting in the fact that the girl I truly like has ended up kissing with about 4 guys from my friends group so far, or well friends, they know how much I love her...

I hate the everybody-kisses-everybody mentality around here, seriously, just cause it is like that, people don't even think about it when they are kissing with a best friend's ex-girlfriend and stuff like that.

Perhaps I'm a bit conservative, but I want love to be true, maybe that sounds kinda stupid, but it is so.

It is a bit my fault though that I still have no girlfriend, mostly when I get close with a girl, I don't know, I just close down, and I really hate it when that happens.

You probably wouldn't have any trouble picking up women but all you need is to just practice talking to randoms women and be able to hold an interesting conversation. Asking them a question and say that you need a woman's perspective for an idea.

I always wait till a girl starts the connection first. How can I work up the courage to try engage a bit of flirting myself because I feel that I will only ever meet a girl if they are interested in me first and initiate flirting or bonding.

I don't really know why I enjoy it, but I do it. I guess do whatever works for you. You don't have to flirt. No one is making you flirt I don't think. lol.

Oh, man! When I was single, I could flirt and not give a damn. Now, I have to be careful when I'm impaired. I don't do well with both skirts and alchy anymore.
