i went snowboarding today and my knees are blacker and bluer than ever.

they officially decided that there were no longer going to let me stand up as long i was standing on a board.

BUT it was after i did one run on the bunny hill and two trips all the way down the mountain.

i did practice riding on the back edge which is a hell of a lot more fun than riding the front edge. but you land on your knees more. boy did i land on my knees. there were approximately three times when i'd be riding the back edge down, than i'd catch the front edge, i would catch some air, then i'd land on my knees. and then my face.

    yes, ouch.

but i fell less, i cried less, i needed less alcohol to calm myself, and i complained much less, and i did two big runs in one day.

i'm improving and i'm really proud of myself right now. i'm going to reward myself with some beer and a big cheeseburger with some green chile and fries.

    next challenge: avoiding the trees.

You should go with my daughter. She went this weekend and spent 50% of the time crawling out of ravines, 25% of the time sitting on her butt waiting for a rescue team to bring her down from a black diamond run she went down mistakenly, and 25% snowboarding.

You guys sound perfect for each other!

we would be good together aaaaajajaa. fortunately there is one thing i know how to do very well, and that is fall. so before i would hit the trees or go near them i would just fall. but then i would try to get back up and i swear the trees have some kind of magnetic force with snowboards because i would start heading toward them again.

that was so irritating lol. i would have to walk a little ways to get away from them.

so does your daughter want to do it again?

Definitely! She loves it! She even had some dumb-ass ride straight into her at full speed, leaving her with a wicked headache and a sore neck. I told her I want her to start using a helmet. Do you wear one? I am seeing more and more people wearing them out here. those trees can be deadly!

Do be careful. My ex-husband spent his first day on ski patrol shoveling snow over gore because some kid hit a tree. The kid didn't make it.

Yup. He quit after that. He said he just felt like crying all day, and that's not what he wanted to be on ski patrol for.

    BUMP.

My daughter was all bent out of shape because we wouldn't take her snowboarding this weekend. (It's been raining like crazy here, so that means lots of new snow in the mountains.) Anyway, there were three avalanches at the place she wanted to go, three dead people, and a couple of rescues.
