It's ciao. And it's Italian, though with these things the origin is often twisty. Used a lot in other European countries though, I certainly use it a lot with my family.

Chao's the same thing. And it's in the dictionary. Ciao can mean more than just goodbye, chao can't.

I get a lot of ciao. The first person I heard it from was a friend of mine from Brazil- apparently it's widely used in Portugese too. Most of the people who ciao me are men, for some reason. Originally Posted by The Great OV!!!
