Went with my gf to the Randwick race course over the weekend. Didn't get to see the pope, he did the final mass too late at night, but got to witness the crowd and all the attractions. There were 100,000+ people at the race course, with tents, pijamas, sleeping bags playing music, singing, dancing. It was a really joyful experience. What I really liked about this gathering is seeing the unity and people of all races, nationalities and social classes together. The Lebanese, US, French, German, Australian and many other flags were flying together side by side. There was something about this crowd that made me feel hopeful.

Weak find the whip, willing find freedom
Towards the sun, carry your name
In warm hands you are given
Ask the wind for the way
Uncertainty's gone, your path will unravel
Accept all as it is and do not blame

    No, but my gf is

I'm actually not very Religious, I just like this whole unity aspect that Religion stands for. I think Religion hides a model that can bring people of all races and creeds together.

But not all religions. That's where it crumbles down.

Why does it do the opposite and pretty much cause war lol? Shit, I think beer does a better job at uniting people.

I was just curious, if I googled quickly what would come it. I'm now thoroughly convinced that EVERYTHING is on the internet these days. Here OV, just for you, The Beer Church:

Must've been thought up by a bunch of engineers. The ones at my uni used to bow if a beer truck passed.

Read it and weep, OV. Or join.

Funny, there was no war at Randwick Race course this weekend.

How come Religion didn't cause it?

The reason for something's absence isn't necessarily the same as for its presence. Mish, you know this.

So, what did you think? You didn't seem him, pity. But what was your general impression? It obviously wasn't the solemn event that surrounds praying to the kaaba. Were most ppl conscious of why they were there, or was it more like a party gathering?

Just cause I go to the bathroom doesn't mean I always take a shit. All I have to do is through some Arabs into your party and grenades will be going off from both parties.

Haha I wonder if they actually finished school and became engineers. Extra strength bridges for beer trucks lol. I think every University has those, UIC here in Chicago most of them were on their parent's budget and slacked off. I couldn't do the same

There were lots of Arabs at the gathering.

They were Christian Arabs and they were singing with the white and black people about peace and harmony.

There was a complete absence of any type of discord at the event and a lot of presence of good will and unity

Like I said, I'm not Religious, but I really enjoyed the event. If I had to describe it I'd call it a camping trip with 100,000 people. Most people were conscious of their pilgrimage and came from other countries for the event I think less to see the pope and more to be part of the experience and spread the message of peace.

You know, sometimes you walk into a room and you get depressed looking at all the sour faces and then you walk into another room and the feeling of happiness from the other people in that room lifts you up. My experience at the WYD was the later.
