And people call them greasers? Do they dance in the streets and drag race?

Let me say I semi-understand where you are coming from but this poses a problem.

    I prefer the term "alternative"

I've been called emo, punk, raver, goth, freak and numerous other things. It happens. I don't like it. But I don't really care. I don't hate myself. I like myself. I hate things in my life. So do most people.

Laugh at me because sometimes I have dreads.
Point because my hair is blue or pink or whatever I feel like making it.
Stare because I like to wear baggy "raver" pants.

I really don't care. I could dress like that at home and never see a soul and be happy with it... except I'm too social for that.

I'm not going to say "get over it" or anything silly like that... but do try not to care. It's not that big of a deal. Be the bigger person and ignore and like who you are and what you have become.

One of the things about the 'flattening' of our world is that more and more, we are ALL going to find out we arent as unique as we like to think.

There's a certain desperation I'm noticing in a LOT of things where ppl are trying their damnedest to be 'different'. You see it in the ways ppl keep pushing the envelope for all kinds of things. But the more we see & read & hear, the more we *should* come to realize that, really, we just aren't all that different from each other. We should find comfort in it. But for some reason, that concept just totally freaks out certain insecure ppl. Its the ultimate irony, really.

Emo is just another example of this need to be different, yet at the same time find identity with others who think the same. Its all the same 'us' versus 'them' bullshit we've seen before.

Well aren't you a bright one?

Hopefully your parents will get tired of you freeloading and throw you out. Maybe the shock will be enough to drive you into actually doing something with yourself other than wallowing in self-pity and spouting threats of violence.

If you can support yourself, and your father bothers you so much, why don't you just move out?

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Where will you be working? Where will you be living? Will you have a family? Will you be able to support them?

Think wisely about the decisions you are making right now because they will affect you for the rest of your life. Your future starts now.

I have been trying to get a job that can support 2 people. I was doing carpet and vynal laying but due to fuel prices there is no work so I lost that job thanks to the government. My computer skills is to low for anyone to hire me. I was going to college for that but the teacher had no idea what he was talking about and I was the one who was explaning the things to the class. I'm not that fit and strong so I can't do hard heavy labor and I don't have a blue card (lets you work at a construction site)

You should get certified that way you can get a higher paying job... and why isn't your girlfriend helping to support the 'family'?

She is. She just started at her new job today. She is also helping me look for a better high paying job. I want to get a job that can support both of us so if she dose loose her job we both can still live without struggling and so we can save more money.

You sound like a normal, hardworking young man trying to make good. IMO, college is best for those who know what they want from it. There are a number of ppl on this site who worked for a while & waited until they knew for sure what they wanted to do before they went to college/university.

School is just a tool. However, I do think you should finish your high school equivalency as soon as you can b/c it will give you options you might not otherwise have. Meantime, make use of your library and read lots. If construction & computers are your interests, focus on those. Knowledge is something that noone can ever take away from you.
