I haven't researched Brad Pitt's martial art training. I'm impressed based on my observations and experience on several martial arts circuits. I've trained with several weapons myself, including swords (although different from the medieval type sword he worked with), and I do a few martial arts. Watching Brad Pitt was impressive because he had strong coordination, good form, and he moved like most experienced fighters I've seen move.

I saw this move and loved it - yes I knew it deviated from the "true plot" and even enjoyed poking fun at my friend who watched it and is COMPLETELY homophobic by telling him abou Achilles and Patricles (sp) sketchy relationship in the story.

Alexi - I had to tell you that I too am an AVID reader with a soft spot for Mythology. As a kid I spent summers inside reading mythologies from all different cultures (any wonder I am nicknamed daywalker?) but Greek/Roman have always been a favorite. Like you I also re-read old favorites - this summer I am working my way through George RR Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. Just had to comment as its always nice to find another fellow devourer of books!

Achilles and Patrocles (sp) sketchy relationship in the story.

Except... in the original Illiad, the two weren't cousins, that got changed just for this version. It took out the homophobic fun, I mean, c'mon! Those guys were sharing more than just armor. And Ajax needed to get killed in a joust, not a battle.

My biggest gripe was Aeneas: Aeneas, the protector of Rome (who is married and with child at this point in the story) got a 10-second cameo and looked like a 16-year old just pulled off the Home Improvement set. Furthermore, Paris didn't even recognize him... AENEAS WAS A PRINCE! They were blood relatives. Going on, Paris is the Aristotelian bitch, I can't believe how they tried to portray him as romantic and full of sacrifice.

Sorry MVP, but it looks like the fight scenes in that movie were fought by a body double. Someone trained in the martial arts and how to use a weapon. As for Brad Pitt, he was given a very light sword to hold during any scene where you could see a closeup of his face. Otherwise, they depended on the mask and quick action to hide the body double that did the ACTUAL fighting.

I understand what you mean sfalexi by not being able to cry at movies, but books are absolutely amazing in the emotional regard to me.

I love being able to sit down and delve deep into a rich, fantastic world and join the main characters on a quest to rid of the world of evil. Such a simple idea, but the way the author does it is what gets to you.

Dragonlance was an amazing set of books, absolutely amazing. LOTR goes without saying. An author I must recommend is Tad Williams, (Otherland series, Memory,Sorry,Thorn series, War of the Flowers) he is absolutely great. His books are quite large, so expect a long read, but once you get into them, you won't be able to put them down.
