Even if the article is somewhat biased (and I have no idea whether or not it is), I am pretty sure it isn't all wrong. Also, people are living longer now than they ever did before (when everything was organic) which tells me we've made progress.
I'm not sure that it has to do with the diets so much as the drugs we've invented to keep us alive when other factors make our organs fail.

Perhaps, except that most of the world doesn't have access to the drugs, and life expectancies are generally rising (except in areas hit hard by HIV infection or in war-torn areas).
