We didn't do this crap, Fras, not everyone succumbs to the soap opera hype. We saved hard to buy our first house. Small wedding too, plain gold bands. You are both sensible, so do what makes sense to you.

    Haha...I am! *blush*

But...that's the point. I don't want either he or I spending much money. I guess silver tarnishes, but we could always get the rings replaced if they didn't last.

However, I could also see spending more money if one was looking to invest in some sort of family heirloom to pass down to a child or grandchild as mentioned. Nothing wrong with that in theory.

Actually, thinking about how much women in my vicinity are really worth, depresses me.
how can you put a worth on a human being, Mish? I am shocked this came from you.

Who cares how big a ring they get or how much it cost? The ONLY thing that matters is that the man put thought into, money can't buy you happiness. Why waste it on unimportant thing such as a ring? It's pathetic.

Sure, they could look at the money and say "ok, let's put a down payment on a car" but a few years later the car will probably be traded in for a new one and then the symbol is gone. A ring is something small that can be carried throughout moves and changes in a marriage.
In a world of credit cards, loans and financing?

    Gimme a break.

People don't need to pay cash to buy an expensive ring. And in any case, it's not like a complete stranger will present a ring as proof of their fiscal responsibility. If people are going to get married, they're probably (hopefully), already aware of what kind of money they bring in, and how they spend it.

    WTF? Frasbee is engaged?
Ha. That'd be news to me, too.

I think I would rather have the tattoo as well, though. Seriously. I am not looking forward to having an irritating piece of metal on my finger until i croak.

You'd think we're talking about a serial killer.

Then again, maybe in the LF world that's the equivalent.

A serial killer is worth a steaming pile of cat shit... after a nice warm meal of chum.

Any less moral person is only worth the newspaper used to wipe the cat's bum.
