Fras, I think you should give the lemon raspberry thing a shot. It's a classic and it's SO freaking good.
I didn't totally love what my husband made for dinner last night, actually. It was penne pasta with fresh tomato sauce and basil. Sounds good, right? It wasn't, really. I didn't hate it but it just wasn't all that thrilling. I still found something nice to say, though, about how fresh it tasted and still said, "Thank you, honey!" for making dinner at all.
The man cooks for me. No way am I going to act anything but thrilled. If he's paying attention, he can tell the difference between real enthusiasm and politeness.
I'm much more sensitive and emotional than your gf, Fras. If you gunned down my culinary suggestions like that, I'd cry.
