It's so weird to know you have had close relationships with people who may have behaved this way. I hope you find out he didn't do it.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

"You can turn your back on a person, but never turn your back on a drug..."

    Hunter S. Thompson

Unless there's some kind of crazy conspiracy my guess is he got drunk and snorted or injected something he shouldn't have. The guy does have a nice gun collection. I can't believe he'd do something like that, but cocaine or heroine might.

Anyway, yeah, I'm going to his hearing on the 30th. I"m just going to walk in quietly and take a seat near the back. If he sees me he sees me. With his fate hanging in the balance and all I expect he'll be too distracted to notice.

Don't know how you define friend, but if it was my friend I'd go and be right there in the front seat. If he did it, then he must be going thru some major shit. If he didn't, then make sure you're there to tell his story. Especially you.

Have you seen this movie? Its amazing yet only got 3 stars. Not surprising, really.

I don't lean on my friends and I don't let them lean on me. I'm attending out of simple curiosity, not to be a pillar of support. This isn't a barroom scuffle or a bent shifter lever. He's going to have to figure this one out on his own.

I haven't seen that movie but from the description I desperately need to. It's a shame people like that don't exist. I bet if you took a bent old curmudgeonly WW2 vet and restored his youth that's the kind of guy you'd have. That's why they were the Greatest Generation. They weren't all a bunch of pussified politically correct cowards.

Clearly one bad example is proof.

Things aren't perfect here, like every other country on the planet. In no way is this a police state.

Then I'll suggest you stop calling him a friend... because that's what friends are for..."support"

Yet. We're working on it. Or did the legal circumvention of the Constitution and creation of a secret police escape you?

Oh, Jesus. This has happened throughout US history. Japanese internment camps? Slavery? Red baiting?

We just have more ways to talk about it now. Plus, it falls under the psychological trap of recency error (also, you probably didn't experience any of the above).

This isn't unprecedented. At all. It happens - and this is much tamer than some of the stuff we've been through. Don't let your political party of choice try to tell you otherwise.

    You're simply not paying attention.

And my political party has zero chance of winning an election, as it's neither of the two that always do.

Why would you support a third party in a two party system? A vote for a third party isn't a vote at all. At least pick the lesser of the two evils.

Because neither one of which is one I can support. One day soon, enough people will be fed up enough to seek other ways to vote. That's how the system works. If they want MY vote, they can work to get it.

The two major parties are the same. Neither is less evil than the other.

I genuinely couldn't decide which party was worse in this most recent election, so for the first time since I turned 18, I didn't vote for President.

People who were voting for a third party in a two party system were responsible for putting George Bush into office.
