Usually these things start in childhood. The stigma of masturbation from things like, misinformation, old wives tale about going blind, masturbation being dirty and shouldn't be talked about, religious up bringing, fear of getting caught, molestation, etc. It's possible you never proceeded to explore yourself like most youngsters do because of one of these.
