as far as position goes, why won't you try working in a different field?

Tell me how easy it is to go into a different field. It's hard enough in this economy to get a good job in my field and I have over 3 years under my belt, much less trying to pick up another trade I have no experience or tools for.

My brother's brain specialist appointment went horribly. He had a severe concussion over 2 years ago and he's still having daily blackouts, and near constant head aches, and a fair amount of permanent memory loss. He's now not able to work officially, not able to drive and cannot attend schooling nor participate in any sports. He's also unable to pay his mortgage and his apartment is on the market.

Depression and anxiety is now kicking in as his life is at this moment over. What the hell does he have to look forward too? Not a whole lot. It's extremely sad and weighing me down and there's nothing I can do about it.
