Well, this is more of a comment than a question. You say that she is overly critical of herself because she's an artist and used to being "critiqued." I have to say, being an artist myself and having had gone to art school for 4 years, that this in and of itself does not cause low self esteem or rabid perfectionism over the self. Maybe over the art, yes, but unless your identity is completely tied up in your art (which, maybe hers was), then you wouldn't let the constant critiquing cripple your sense of self. The critques are just another way to be graded, much like a professor's comments on a term paper.

I didn't say that artists have low self esteem.. Like you said.., she took her art very personally.., placed herself in that situation.., clearly.., all the young girls in her art were HER.., and everything that was going on to them was a reflection of how she saw the world.., "controlled by men.., trying to repress women.., men were like animals and violent.., women were so innocent and pure.., and men came in and mutilated them"

She told me about this one guy she dated who was from the military and working as an EMT for the rest of his life now because he never finished college.., he put her in the hospital twice.. watched porn constantly which made her feel insecure about how she looked.., would flirt with other girls.., etc.. Nah...I am out of college and have been working for ten years in as an art director. I'm also a very different kind of artist, a commercial one. We tend to be less self-absorbed than the "crazy" types like your nymph hehe.

And I realize that the art world has a tendency to make people self absorbed. Galleries tend to market the artists along with the art, similar to the way the music industry does. One of the shames about art school, in my opinion, is how your non-studio courses end up becoming so secondary. You end up taking all these studio classes where you sit around and talk about your art, while the classes that could help you make relevant art, like history, sociology, philosophy, etc., are secondary electives. At least that's how it was when I went to school years ago. Maybe things have changed since then.
