In a week's time I'll be taking off to explore the east coast of Australia. One of the most beautiful stretches of land in the world.

I'll be surfing uncrowded, quality surf, all day every day.

I'm taking my wet-dream of a girlfriend.

I'm gone for two weeks.

Haha thanks Vashti. I can't wait. Re: Sharks, I don't think about them. I've probably got more chance of killing myself on the road.

Although having said that, a guy was actually taken up north a couple of weeks ago.

Romantic? haha. We'll have to wait and see. I'm a bit worried about what she's going to do while I'm surfing. It's winter here, so it might not always be sunbaking weather and we're camping in most spots. I was originally going to do the trip solo.

edit; well I don't know about your girlfriend, but if I was on a surfing holiday with my bf, I'd lie on the beach and watch him. I might even join in, actually, that'd rock.

I heard they have more shark attacks in Australia than anywhere else in the world. You are a brave guy. (Maybe foolish too? haha)

I touched a stingray one time. I thought it was cool till that nature guy died from one.

I guess I am a swimming-pool kind of girl.

We do get quite a few attacks but a lot of them are on the south and west coast, where the great whites are.

But no surfer seriously worries about sharks - it's like anything else, you just accept the risks. Otherwise it'd be like fearing a fatal car accident everytime you drove to work in the morning, or a mugging every time you walked up to the shops.

The only time get a bit wary is when I'm by myself and the sun's gone down.

Do you know if he went to the north shore? where did he surf? That's one place I definitely want to go in the next couple of years.

I'm bringing a bodyboard for her but I suspect it might go unridden. She's pretty brave in the water but she's not a strong swimmer, and it's cold now. I wear a full-length wetsuit. But the further north we go the warmer it'll get.
