If you don't want 'creepy old guys' hitting on you... then it might be best to avoid the places/situations where they are bound to be found. It's one thing for a woman to be kidnapped and then raped in broad daylight... it's quite another for a girl to get stumbling drunk and leave herself vulnerable to attack.

I used to work with this young girl a couple years back. The day I started was the day she turned 18. I'll never forget this 35+ year old guy who stopped by and literally begged for her phone number. He told his friend--quit loudly I might add--that she looked like a stripper. What a wonderful comment. She refused to cough up her digits so he shoved his own phone number in her hand and told her he had to talk to her. Really creepy.

bo i feel bad for you that you had to experience this situation. luckily you were with friends and you were able to lock yourself into your car. it is horrible and disgusting coz one does associate these men with ones dad when men much older do this. it's frikin disgusting but bo it IS going to happen tonns and tonns more times in your life.

make sure you always carry a whistle and spray in your purse for real attempted rape situations that might happen...coz unfortunately when one is young like you are; you're not fully aware of the risky situations you may yet put yourself into. i have had way too many situations with both young and older (and yes eww) guys. you learn over time how to handle it and yes it is scary as hell. these guys are likely the reason i went thru my 20's avoiding men totally

get self defence lessons, maybe take up karate or something like that would be my advice and then you will always be able to handle situations better.

I actually do carry pepper spray in my purse at all times. I know it's common for older men to hit on younger women; just not when there is such a large age gap. I'm not so naive that I get freaked out every time someone that I'm definitely not interested in or is much older hits on me. But it's a bit startling when they get into your 'space'.
I'm thinking about taking a self defense class at my college next fall, especially since I'm very petite and when I'm out on my own I want to know that I can protect myself to an extent
