Then they walked me to a recovery room with lots of people laying on beds and called my husband to pick me up. That's all I remember of the procedure. I don't even really remember how I got to the room and chair where they did the surgery. However afterward was absolutely horrid. I ended up with the worst dry socket ever and was practically screaming when I went back in and they were packing the hole they'd made with clove oil soaked gauze. Then there was that random clover oil taste. You are sitting around not thinking about it and suddenly clover oil... I didn't find it too bad but they said some people just can't stand the taste at all. They repacked the surgery site 3 more times but it didn't hurt as bad and they had to pack the other side twice before everything healed up. I did get lots of straight codeine out of it after telling them hydrocodone did not work and I might be allergic to it. So those couple weeks really weren't that bad except the part of getting packing shoved in the first time with everything so swollen.
I can't afford to be knocked out, I wish I could though. I hope it won't be too bad.

Waiting may cost you more (if you then need an appliance to straighten the rest) than shopping around for someone who can do it sooner. I had mine taken out as an undergrad and was recovered after a weekend.
Well from the looks of it, my teeth are pretty much fully grown. They don't look much smaller than my other molars from the xray, probably the same size. I have school and work, can't miss either. I thought if it wasn't going to be a big deal and I didn't have to go to an oral surgeon and all I could just power through it but they might have to remove this 'thing' that they found as well, which is lodged pretty deep down in there.

Bo, its probably just some extra calcification. If you have researched, you probably already know that wisdom teeth often don't look as nice and well-formed as regular teeth. I liken it to foot binding... bones that are compressed during development can be very weird. I know you'll be fine. Don't worry. Post how it goes.

Yeah it will be fine. Plus i just find out I do in fact have state health insurance but I think coverage is VERY limited since it's free....so i'm hoping I can get a discount at least. I'm more worried about the money than the pain at this point.

Is there a dental school near you? I'm not recommending a student dentist for your wisdoms but those getting their surgical training will provide just as good work and for a fraction of the cost. We used to get our teeth cleaned at the dental school when we were grad students (I was at a medical school that had an associated dental school).

On a completely unrelated note, I'm tempted to rework your sig in honor of some uni design briefs/tutors/students for archi ;P

Yep, but none of them do Oral surgery or even extractions at that, I've checked which sucks but I guess it would make sense, since they are still in training and can only do cleaning procedures/exams and such.

I just found out I have my first cavity.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
