I have never changed my last name and never would. It means a lot to me.

Since I consider myself moderate (well, okay - left-leaning moderate) it isn't really the conservative party I have so much disdain for; it's him personally. He's a horse's ass. But if it makes you feel any better, I get sick of Bill Mahr's ranting on occasion, too. (But at least he is funny, which isn't true of Limbaugh.)

Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter pick me, not because of the parties they represent......they just say really really ignorant things. Usually hateful things. Then they try to disguise it as political opinion. More bullcrap!

Hyphenation was an option, but some names just sound stupid together. I've also think most of the hyphenated names I've seen sound very pretentious.

Yeah, I briefly considered the hyphenation thing after being bothered about changing it. Then I realized it would sound awful, and maybe even a little pretentious.

The funny thing is, I've never liked my surname because it's one of those very generic-sounding common names like 'Smith' or 'Brown'. I was excited about changing it one day to something more exotic. Turns out I'm marrying a guy who has an even more generic last name than mine. Oh, the irony.

Rush Limbaugh and his ilk are Demagogues, they gain political power by appealing to prejudices of the public by using nationalist themes. His counterpart is Vladimir Zhirinovsky in Russia.

Yeah, well he may be an idiot, whoever the hell he is, but feminazi is a pretty accurate term to describe nitpicky, bra-burning, misandrous feminists.

I think some of the notions of feminism are valid, but I don't associate myself with feminism. Then again, I'm not a chauvinist, either. I'm somewhat of a masculist though

I would think in your field you want a relatively easy name so they can remember it and look you up. Your first name, which isn't so common and is classy, will totally help.

Funny that. I always thought Religion was the great mark of conservatism. Religion, which is the traditional enemy of Science.

You could always hyphen. But only unless you really hate your last name.

My grandma did her last name like that. She has THREE last names. If I ever get married (which there is like, a 99.99% percent chance that I will not!) I would hyphen my name. Because I have always liked my last name, and it goes so well with the rest of my name. I was MEANT to have this last name.

Best leave that for the women to decide.

The only reason why they were Christian was because they couldn't be anything else at the time. They'd be crucified. It's the same reason why there are "no gay people" in Saudi Arabia. I think that you'll find a lot less Scientists today who are able to reconcile their Scientific views with Religion. When we talk about Religion and Science today we talk about modern Religion and Science, not their manifestations 500 years ago. Today many Religious people still can't accept evolution and carbon dating methods so to call conservatism a movement which aims to preserve old Religious (and other) traditions at the expense of innovation and scientific breakthroughs the mark of hard science is kinda funny, it's an oxymoron.

You forgot Archimedes, Euclid... not Christian. Sorry, the ones you mention are simply products of their time, as Mish says.

Even Newton admitted "seeing a little further by standing on the shoulders of Giants"

Ey guys, everybody has it's own religion, maybe let's leave it at that and stop talking about this? We will not make anybody change their believes , the only thing we can do is start insulting and offend each other so let's just shut up and come back to the original subject. Enough about the religion.
