Today i learnt my son is actually quite poorly and faces major heart surgery in the not too distant future.

Qwerty! There is too much on your plate, sweety. What's the surgery for?
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

What a horrible news for a parent to hear Qwerty

    I hope everything goes well
    Don't cry, don't regret and don't blame
Weak find the whip, willing find freedom
Towards the sun, carry your name
In warm hands you are given
Ask the wind for the way
Uncertainty's gone, your path will unravel
Accept all as it is and do not blame

He has a hole in his heart..which has never affected his heart function, but today a scan showed a 'leaky valve' and slight deterioration in heart function.

Is that your own picture in your avatar?
So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
    blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?

He has (and always has had) poor circulation. But he is showing no outward symptoms thought to relate to his heart problem.

He has lost over a kg in the last couple of weeks (which is suspected to be unrelated)even though he is eating well, he is also always poorly with virus or bug of somesort.
He's back in for various tests with specialists on wednesday when they will get a better picture of whats going on.

The deterioration is only slight, its just come as a shock even though i knew the day would come.
    Its all scarily real now.

qwert - i'm pretty sure they told you that this problem (although frightening to be sure) is highly treatable.

You have a disproportionate amount of hardship to deal with. I wish I could help you.

Too bad she doesn't live in the states so we could help her find available resources.
