    Sense of entitlement

....I'm noticing it getting worse the younger people are.

I'm drawing an example from my workplace. Coworkers about six years younger than me, have been bitching and breaking down in tears over the pressure to perform in their position. However, they still feel they are qualified enough to move on to higher positions with even more pressure to perform. Why do they feel they deserve it? Not sure. Not only that, they expect to be rocketed up through the company within two or three years. I don't get where they don't understand that they need to take initiative to be promoted, instead of whining that nobody is holding their hand and leading them to what they think they deserve.

    Wtf.

They should be told tough times call for tough measures.

Though, sometimes it's a too way street. There are plenty of managers out there whose expectations are okay, but the way they convey them is bad. Sometimes it's not what you say, but how you say it. Having high expectations is good, having high expectations and calling people stupid or find other way to belittle them to feel better is unacceptable. Not saying it's like that in your workplace. Just been noticing a few managers acting in that way lately. They are drunk with power.

I know it's popular sport to say that the younger generation is worse than the previous one, but I guess I've been lucky. I know lots of hard-working, bright young people.

Maybe your manager needs to do a better job screening the people s/he hires?

I know, you hear this shit with every generation.

Apparently I'm supposed to be a lazy ass, know-nothing who texts too much and plays too many videogames because everything has been handed to me on a silver platter.

I'm part of the "kids these days" no matter what I do.

Which is not to suggest I care, but rather just making a point.

every generation gets worse due to bad parenting, each generation has grown up with more and more luxuries and each generation of parents want to give these luxuries they didn't have growing up until someday everyone in the younger generation is going to be a self involved narcissistic maniac. simple.

My grandpa thinks it's kind of silly when people call his generation "the greatest generation." Basically almost any generation of Americans would have stepped up to fight Hitler because there was no choice

I crack under pressure at my job right now.

I'm a cashier. Seems like an easy job, but there's a jillion things to remember, two cash registers to learn, the customers are rude as **** and have no patience, and the drama in the store is ridiculous. To add my back is going crazy. And on top of it all, I work with my boyfriend. Always thought it was a bad idea, but I need the money so I took the job. So now all the coworkers dont mind their business and some act like it's a felony to work in the same place as your boyfriend. I barely acknowledge him at work. If our lunch time is in sync, I dont even want to sit at the same table as him. We sit at different tables and chat. I am doing everything I can to avoid any meetings about flirting on the job even if we are just having a conversation, and you know what, it is stressful. Everyone's eye is on me. The first day on the job I knew about everyone's baby daddy and how nasty they were. I know the fake people and the bitches according to coworkers. Working around all women made me expect this, but shit not on the first day.

Sometimes I go home and cry, whether it be back pain or work stress or even both. Can you believe it's only been a week and I'm already a wreck? I want to work on the floor where I can move around and help customers on the floor. Walking helps my back alot in comparison to standing behind a desk. I'm starting to believe I was put as a cashier just because my boyfriend works there and he works in appliances, which was the only floor job looking for people at the time.

I dont have the mentality that I will get a promotion soon because of what I am going through now, but I do think a promotion, or at least moving me elsewhere, should come into play once I work for it.
I dont think it's a generation thing. I hate to hear that. Every person who uses that line has had it said to them in the past so they feel good to be able to say it now that they arent kids IMO.

I think they should cut the bankers' salary in half and use the other half to increase interest on savings accounts.

That would be fair, I think. I believe I am entitled to more interest anyway... I give those suckers a job in the first place.

Besides, that's a job that can be easily replaced with a computer, which wouldn't **** up as much.

I don't think having luxuries ruins people. It's being raised to take them for granted.

I suggest we start community work programs for teenagers. They'll be too tired to spray paint everything they see and loiter at the mall, and I'll get a whole lot of yardwork done.

You wouldn't even own any clothing, Stud Boy. You would do everything nude, including the grocery shopping.

That's what web banking is for.

As for paying bank fees (and therefore employee salaries), well I see it this way: If you don't like it, don't use the service. Keep your money under your mattress, see if you get any interest on THAT. I don't get people that think they're 'entitled' to interest (AGAIN with the enititlement....see why I mentioned it?!?). You wouldn't get it if you didn't use the bank. Yeesh.
