From a Muslim to non-Muslim Woman

From a Muslim to non-Muslim Woman

    When you look at me
    all you can see
Is the scarf that covers my hair
    My word you can't hear
Because you're too full of fear,
Mouth gaping, all you do is stare.

You think it's not my own choice,
In your own "liberation" you rejoice.
You're so thankful that you're not me.
    think I'm uneducated,
    Trapped, oppressed and subjugated.
You're so thankful that you are free.

    ***********************************

But Western women you've got it wrong-
You're the weak and i'm the strong,
For I've rejected the trap of man.
Fancy clothes- low neck, short skirt,
These are devices for pain and hurt,
Always jumping to the male agenda,
    Competing on his terms.
No job share, no baby-sitting facilities,
    No feeding and diaper-changing amenities.
No equal pay for equal skill-
Your job they can always fill.
    Is this liberation?

    ****************************

a person with ideas and thought,
I'm not for sale, I can't be bought.
    I won't decorate anyone's arm,
Nor be promoted for my charm.
There's more to me than playing coy.
Living life as a balancing game- mother,
Daughter, wife, nurse, cleaner, cook, lover-
And still bring home a wage.
    Who thought up this modern
    "freedom"

Where man can love'em and man can leave 'em.
This is not free but life in a cage.

    *******************************************

Western women you can have your life.
    Mine- it has less strife.
    cover and i get respected
    Surely that's to be expected-
For I won't demean the feminine
    I won't live to a male criterion.
I dance to my own tune,
And I hope you see this very soon,
For your own sake- wake up and use your sight!
Are you so sure that you are right?

note- this is not a love poem...i hope you understand it.....

by the way i am new here i hope that i am welcome here....

    you freind one.m.....

    salam

Of course, head-scarfs were an entirely male-originated law, and I'm pretty sure a Muslim woman would be more liekly to encounter "grief" on her side of the ideological spectrum for wearing a mini-skirt than the trampish infidel for say, covering up her nose... But no, no, you're right, the Western woman is the truly opressed.

I just hope one day they see the error of their ways.

Besides, the white woman doesn't even write didactic poetry debasing the Muslim way of life and calling them on their ignorance! So how could she possibly be right? Obviously the more confident lifestyle is the one that can see right through a different one's false sense of freedom.

Keep dancing to your own tune, Salami.

I love your use of stereotypes and generalizations.

Actually I think I love the hypocrisy in it all.

Yeah, the irony of this is that you are writing a poem about the generalizations the 'western woman' puts on you, yet you are generalizing the 'western woman' as well.

As for the 'I am not for sale, I can't be bought' part.....what about the 'western woman' is 'for sale' as you put it? I know plenty of muslim women, most of whom have been 'sold' by their fathers into arranged marriages (quite often accompanied by dowries) which the woman had no say in.

I think you've got it backwards. No offense, but most of us educated western women are quite aware that muslim women are educated, intelligent people with opinions and thoughts. Most of us who do respect ourselves don't wear revealing clothes. The difference is I will marry the man of my choice who loves me and treats me as an equal, and at the same time get to be all those things you call yourself....mother, daughter, wife, nurse, cleaner, cook, lover- and still bring home a wage. I just won't be burdened with the contempt for muslims that you apparently have for the 'western woman'.

PS For the record, I have nothing against Islam or muslim people. Just intolerant, biased people in general
