I hope someone burns that pub to the ground.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Specifically, I was thinking that if I could, I would break their window and throw a Molotov cocktail inside, late at night, so that they get the ****ing message.

That's nothing compared to what the venue will lose now in damaged reputation and bad publicity out of this. They should've just let it go and focus on improving their service.

That is pathetic on the bars part. I didn't know a tip was required. They actually put it on the bill? wtf?

well a tip isn't actually required. a tip is basically an expression of good service. however i find it sad for most if not all restaurants, this is already the norm. servers make their incomes out of these tips so it's a hard life. i can see things from both sides of the fence on this one.

however, in this case, i think that the COP is dumb. wtf are you stealing from the restaurant when you refuse to leave a tip?? if i were the couple, i'd call action line and report BOTH the restaurant and the police. up holding the law my ass.

"for not paying the mandatory 18 percent gratuity totaling $16"

Mandatory tip, no matter how you reword it, is bullshit.

There's this vegetarian restaurant down in the city where they dont even have a price list, you pay what you want. I wonder what happens with the freeloaders Would be fun to try it out. But maybe they have enough enthusiasts or save tons on ingredients.

I side with the servers on the fact that a tip is their financial lifeline.

My issue lies in the restaurant itself. It's utter bullshit that, as an employer, you are not required to pay your employee minimum wage.

I work for the biggest food supplier in North America. My job is based on quality control of produce. It's my job to make sure that what hits your plate is appealing, quality and generally presents itself well. I don't get tipped for making sure that every restaurant gets the best we have to offer every time.

Why don't I get tipped by the restaurants? I am going out of my way to make sure that they get good service. Just because you do your job, DOESN'T mean I should be required or even expected to tip you.

I think a much better system would be in house incentive. That's how you make bank with my company. The faster and more accurately you work, the more you get paid. There are some guys that are making nearly double their hourly wage in incentive alone. Why shouldn't restaurants work on the same principal. Customers get an evaluation card with their bill and quickly mark the boxes that describe their service. At the end of the month, its all tallied up and you get cashed out based on your ratings. You can't complain that its not fair either...one miss pick for the night crew and it ruins their incentive for the [u]month[/]. It's cutthroat, you sink or swim, but you breed high caliber workers.

Employers should pay their employee's wages, end of story.

Meh, there are two sides to every story. I bet the server was busy to the 9s from not enough help and the group was trying to make some kind of point to the restaurant. Its the server that will get shafted in the end.

As for the mandator tip for a group? Simple--separate cheques.
