I think the subject of arranged marriage is coming up more and more as
Westerners embrace Eastern thought. LATimes wrote a story on the subject and there’s even a docu-series/TV show in the works on the concept:

its sick and disgusting. it brings people down to the level of property and families to the level of breeding stock. it sickens me to think that such a travesty still continues in this day and age.

How do you all feel about mail-order brides? It seems similar to me....no love, ...person brought down to level of property, ...saving them, etc.

I think that the mail-order bride is different. I haven't heard of any of those companies forcing a woman to marry a man. It is just another way to meet guys or girls. It's plain online dating, but international.

I think it depends on the culture you were raised in. I have actually known a few couples involved in arranged marriages, and the level of happiness after several years is pretty similar to those who choose their own spouse. One old woman I know who had an arranged marriage ended up divorced... she was Greek. Two Indian couples I know in arranged marriages look pretty happy (one of those couples act kind of like newlyweds, as a matter of fact).
