    Compatibility???

Hello again! I am learning so much in my relationship hehe...with questions to ask.

I just realized that my boyfriend and I have nothing in common. Is it a big issue?

Explanation...he is so very very much into politics. When we used to live together, CNN, BBC, CBC ruled on TV. If he is not watching that he will be reading online politics stuff. On the other hand, I have no interest at all in politics. My interest lies in medical stuff which is such a bore to him. Even at work, he is always campaigning for himself or a friend and he is vry anti management always fighting it...I wonder why they still keep him there...heheh!

What attracted me to him is his "gentleman (ness)" and etiquette. Since am very shy, I have always been attracted to outgoing outspoken kind of guys but now am thinking maybe I got too much of what I was looking for!

So, I would like to know if compatibility could make a relationship better.

A very BIG issue. If you have nothing in common, then there is nothing that will keep you together as the relationship progresses.

But don't panic yet. What you posted is just a minor incompatibility. Surely there is a lot more between you guys as far as common interests go. Think music, movies, books, sport, social activities, sense of humour, favourite food etc.... Don't call it quits just because you are not interested in politics like him. Take a more wholistic look at your relationship. You will find a lot more things in common than you think. Otherwise your relationship would've burnt itself out a long time ago.

Are you saying you have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in common? Like Mish said, take a look at the whole picture and figure out what you do have common between you. It's healthy to have a few different interests. You'll also be suprised how over time the other person's interests start to interest you more and more......

We both like eating healthy although he’s a vegan and am a carnival (?)
We both enjoy “Just for Gags” (silly??)
    We are both religious
We come from same country and live abroad (kinda same traditions and stuff)
    We both value family values
I will think of more…….having said that I think I should change my statement a little bit……’We do not have very much in common”

I picked on politics because he spends a lot of time on it, I could have fun as well but am not interested in politics and sometimes I just sit there….you know just to be there when he is busy reading, talking, watching or writing political stuff. When I try to talk to him he would be like…..”sorry am trying to concentrate”. Even after not seeing each other for a while, he will be like, oh, lets hang out and when we are together…..politics!

Anyway, I have asked him if hanging out with him means me watching him do politics or him and I just having some good time together! He apologises but there is always something on CNN that he needs to “catch up” on!

Am human and my patience is running out…..we dated for a year and stayed together for a year and a half..then I moved out due to work

It sounds like the real issue is not what you have in common, but the fact that you two are not spending enough time together. You should have a talk to him and explain that spending more quality time together is very important to you and see how he reacts. Try to be diplomatic and look for ways where both of you can win from doing something you both enjoy.

Andora... I think the term you're looking for is omnivore --- humans can't survive on a purely meat diet (aka carnivore)... plants can provide enough variety to cover most of our dietary needs hence why humans can be vegans (herbivores).

However it's easier (and possibly safer) to follow a more traditional omnivorous diet.
