Through a change in Canadian citizenship law, I automatically (and unknowingly) became a Canadian citizen (along with millions of others), effective today. The rules are: 1) Born after Dec. 31, 1946 ... check; 2) First generation born outside of Canada ... check; 3) Born to a Canadian citizen ... check! The new law was intended to restore citizenship for many who lost it under the old law, but also created a whole bunch of new Canadians (mostly Americans), myself included.

My mom was born and lived in Newfoundland, Canada up until about a year before I was born and moved to New Jersey (USA) shortly after she married my dad (an American). I was born in New Jersey.
I'm just wondering ... other than having to learn the words to "Oh Canada" and changing my spelling of words like colour and honour, are there any other requirements?
Carl.
