stupid question (using "it's me" in phone msgs)

Is it just me, or can only the girl/boyfriend use "it's me" when leaving phone messages? "Hey it's me. Call me when you get this". My ex-girlfriend still uses "it's me" when calling. I dunno, just something I'm wondering about. "It's me" does have this sort of intimacy to it; and none of my friends, family, anyone I know ever uses it except girlfriends.

Stupid topic, I know, but thoughts?

it depends how much that other person knows you. i used to just talk to someone and she automatically knew i was talking to her. i love that in a person.

I don't think so. If I figure the person will recognize my voice, I don't even introduce myself or even say the 'it's me' over the phone. I just start talking and hope that they'll figure out who they're talking to. And they almost always do (or at least I can't remember when they haven't)

I have to agree with alexi - I just say 'Hey...' and then start saying what I wanted to say.

Sometimes I will start my convos with 'Dude!!!...' But I never ever say 'its me' or who I am.

Interesting. I asked around a bit. Everyone here agrees "it's me" is a bit reserved. They even did a bit on it on Seinfeld ("'it's me'? She's using 'it's me' already?") I've never had anyone but girlfriends ever use it on me. Shrug.

Me and my mom say it all the time to each other on the phone... <shrugs> But yeah other than that most of the time it's just starting out a convo if you know them good enough and/or its not a house line.
