    CC'ing work emails

I am assuming that a boss would never CC people into an email if it involved badness such as :

Your performance is lacking in the following areas
We have had problems with you doing the following
    This needs improvement

Unless it was to their boss and it was bcc

Am I right about the use of CC'd emails ?

People are usually copied when the information is relevant to them, or when the person writing the message is looking to cover their ass.

Man, that is a horrible way to reprimand someone. The *only* time I have ever used email like that was as official documentation when someone was about to be fired. I once had a crazy woman employee once who would send really offensive language messages if she was unhappy about something. Always bcc in that case. But that is 'point of no return' stuff, that kind of message.

Did this happen to you George? Do you want to post for advice?

I am a lot like an abused child. I had a few really bad bosses so now I always assume I have done something wrong.

My boss is going away for a few week(s) and said he was sending me an email with instructions for the next few weeks and ccing the person taking his job for a while.

I was just wondering if it might include stuff such as performance issues.

I haven't done anything wrong that I know of, but I am paranoid about these sorts of things after being the victim of some systematic workplace bulling by superiors in the past and it has really had an impact on the way I handle workplace issues.

Like I said I think it just is what it is and that is communication that is necessary for the boss to go away..

On second thought that is what it will be.

You're fine, it's all good - just relax.

It makes sense to CC the email to your boss' replacement cuz he needs to know what you're suppposed to do at work.

Yeah, he's telling his sub to look out for your performance in those areas. Your boss is not only telling you, your performance is lacking, but:

my new replacement will be supervising your performance in these areas and relaying the information back to me.

I've sent an e-mail like that before.

Honestly, I don't know your boss' style, but I'd take that e-mail pretty seriously either way. I've only done it a pretty egregious case where I needed to make it damn clear that her performance was unsatisfactory and being evaluated. I prefer to be more subtle / hands off.

This^. It makes sense to send to keep your boss' replacement in the loop.

Tho, like I said, if performance issues are mentioned in this way, their leadership ability sucks. There are much better ways to handle a situation.

    Your probably right.

Come to think of it I have not been there long enough for there to be any issues.

In construction politics, boss throws wrench at you instead of e-mailing.

Construction workers would be just as bitchy if not more bitchy than the worst female office worker.

I doubt it. Construction workers have to worry about things like not dying. Being on good terms w/each other is a good idea. Women are bitchy in offices b/c they are bored and don't have enough to do.
