reasons to be happy

from this article, http://www.marieclaire.com/world-reports/news/latest/reasons-to-be-happy

i thought this would cheer people up, it has cheered me up anyway:

WHO KNEW? ALCOHOL IMPROVES YOUR MEMORY.
Moderate alcohol consumption actually sharpens your mind and decreases the risk of dementia as you age. Warning: Swigging the entire bottle of wine, however, will most likely lead to forgetting the events of the night.

PAINFUL STILETTOS? HISTORY!
An adjustable high-heel shoe has been created by a student at the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY: Press a button and it goes from high heel to midheel to flat. Somewhere, vertically challenged boyfriends are cheering.

YOUR ODDS OF BEATING BREAST CANCER ARE BETTER THAN EVER.
Early detection and treatment has dramatically increased survival Your world is actually improving! We dug deep for the good news about chocolate, sex, your paycheck, and more rates of breast-cancer patients since the 1990s. More than 90 percent of cases are now caught in the first and second stages, which yield 98- and 80-percent survival rates for five years, respectively.

LESS MONEY EQUALS MORE HAPPINESS.
Mr. and Mrs. Jones, take note: Happiness researchers (yes, they exist) have found that as long as your basic needs are met, more wealth does not make you happier. In fact, it can actually trigger anxiety.

THE HOLE IN THE OZONE IS SHRINKING.
Environmental awareness and action are finally starting to pay off. The hole in the ozone layer over Antarctica has actually shrunk 20 percent since 2003.

YOUR GUY LOVES YOU JUST THE WAY YOU ARE. REALLY.
An impressive 92 percent of guys wouldn’t want their girls to get boob jobs, Harlequin’s romance report revealed. Tragically, the news comes too late for Tara Reid.

YOU’RE SAFER NOW THAN LAST YEAR.
According to the Department of Justice, rates of violent crime (homicide, rape, and aggravated and simple assault) have reached the lowest levels since 1973—the year the department started keeping track— and have fallen a whopping 33.4 percent since 1994.

BOTOX CURES WRINKLES - AND INCONTINENCE!
Smooth skin? Check. Sweat-free armpits? Check. Now, researchers have discovered even more uses for Botox: soothing migraines, improving speech, and taming an overactive bladder. Our one concern: Just where exactly do they stick that needle?

SEX MAKES YOU HAPPIER THAN SNAGGING $49,999.
Thought you couldn’t put a price on a good sex life? Two economists did it. They calculated that, in terms of happiness, having sex more often is equal to getting a $50,000 raise. Now, if only we could charge our men overtime . . .

YOU CAN EAT CHOCOLATE WITHOUT THE GUILT.
Ecco Bella has created “functional” chocolate. One bar relieves cramps and other PMS symptoms; another improves skin (healthbychocolate. com). We’ll really be impressed when they make a “functional” doughnut.

PANDAS ARE DOING BETTER THAN WE THOUGHT.
You probably haven’t lost sleep over Ling-Ling and Hsing-Hsing lately, but according to an official survey by the World Wildlife Fund and the State Forestry Administration of China, the giant-panda population is 40-percent higher than previously thought.

SEEDLESS LEMONS ARE NOW A REALITY.
How many times have you silently (or not so silently) cursed as you choked on those annoying seeds in your lemonade? Good news—someone was listening. A California agricultural company has acquired the rights to our favorite citrus, sans seeds. Buy them at limoneirafresh.com.

OUR GALAXY HAS A SPARKLING FUTURE.
Astronomers have discovered that some planets in the Milky Way may contain enough carbon to produce an entire underground layer of diamonds. Bonus: As the galaxy ages, diamond planets will form more frequently. Beam me up, Scotty.

The universe has no favorites. It doesn't care whether diamonds or iron and whatever you choose is existing in what amounts. Us humans as a species have for some reason a liking for shiny things. I don't think we will exist to actually mine any of those planets. Though I am sure many of the comets floating through space have some very rare and useful matter in them.

Oh and yea, I'll take the 50 grand raise please. Pussy is over-rated. So is money but I could use it to buy pussy and still have money left over.

actually a lot of research has been done on money and happiness.

the general conclusion is that people who have enough money are happier than those that have too little OR too much.

I once saw a fairly wealthy guy in a brand new expensive sports car at the pharmacy. I thought, "Must be nice." I wandered in, and as I'm standing there I hear the lady at the drive up talking about his proscriptions.

"So here's your Effexor, Xanax, and Viagra. Any questions about your medications today?"

I decided I didn't want to be that guy. Instead, I'll be the guy w/ rich friends so that I can go stay at their beach house and drive their $200,00 car around periodically for a cheap vacation.
"Well, then," the Cat went on, "you see a dog growls when it's angry, and wags its tail when it's pleased. Now I growl when I'm pleased, and wag my tail when I'm angry. Therefore I'm mad."

the wealthy people that i am exposed to are pretty happy i'd say. it's up to us to make our own happiness no matter how much or little money we have.

Some people are recovering alcoholics. They have a lifelong battle against alcohol. Anything for these people to be happy about?

Does everything really have to be about image? Dress how you want to dress, and if other people can't handle it, that is there problem. I don't buy it.

So you are saying the second stage mortality rate is 20% after 5 years? Not good enough. Better screening and more education needed from high school.

I am one of those 92%. And I really don't care about Tara Reid.

This is great news. I guess I should feel 33.4% more safe now? I don't.

Get that needle away from me!

Umm.. let me think about this for a second... okay, I'm done. I want my 50,000 dollars please, I don't mind my sex life taking a little dip.

How about when they make a functional pizza topped with functional ice-cream and melted chocolate? How about a functional big mac? There is no such thing as a diet big mac. Its called eating healthy, and exercising. No secret there.

I'm still concerned about how I am going to pay this months rent. Not about no panda! I mean, what did a panda ever do for me?

No. My children's, children's, children's, children's, children probably has a galaxy with a sparkling future. I have the bloody moon shines so bright and keeps me awake at night.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I'm not buying it. My clouds are still gray. And the glass is still half empty.

That took a lot of time, I'm going to rest now. lol.

happiness is a temporary state of mind. It isn't something permanent. I am eating ice cream right now, I am happy..when I am done with my ice cream...I might be happy...I might not be happy. People who have lots of sex are only happier than those who don't get it when THEY ARE ACTUALLY HAVING THAT SEX right at that moment. After they just want more just like every other person. Though I can always jag off and I am good for a few hours. I have two modes mainly...In pain..and not in pain...thats it for me...and when I am not in pain...I am happy as I can get.

You have to be unhappy sometimes to appreciate being happy.

Think about the things you never notice b/c they are ALWAYS there (mostly):

oxygen, constant body temperature, gravity, your bones being bone and not jelly...

but take away any of those, even for a short while and you'd notice.

So. Given that practically nothing happens in biology w/o reason, ever wonder WHY we are prone to being unhappy? What purpose does it serve? Its not just to 'become happy'.

Hmmm. LOL.

Oh, and those ppl who are unhappy b/c they have too much money simply lack imagination and scope.

well ov i have encountered people who are downright miserable all the time. there is no happy and unhappy times. it's all unhappy times. and if what is going on isn't unhappy, well then they're doing their damnedest to make it so. most of these people have too much money. and the rest had too little.

Yea but to say that all people who have more than enough money are less happy than those who simply have enough is a false statement. I agree with Indi, you just have to know what to use that money and how. Most people who have to much money fall under one of two traps...stars usually fall under the drugs because they don't know what to do with their money (thus their opinion shouldn't count) and a good portions of the rest simply get greedy for more for some odd reason. The more money some people have the more they want. I on the other hand if I had a shit load of money I would simply enjoy a simple life with the stress of lack of funding off my back.
