How to get a girl's attention?

There's a girl i like in our school,she's just a a year younger than me and pretty as hell.
I've noticed her when she laughed at a joke i made which was not something intentionally directed towards her(i didn't see how beautiful her smile is was before, and yeah im kinda like the stereotypical 'stupid funny guy' in my high school) and i cant get her out of my head now. I want to have some more of her attention before i make a bold move on her.
So this is a question directed to the girls on the forum: can you list a few things that gets your attention or things that you like that might be helpful in this situation?

How about going up to her and introducing yourself, then ask for her name....chat about school and stuff then ask for her number.
