Dang, this bastard is big now. It's supposedly the size of the state of Texas itself, and FEMA is projecting that it will destroy over 4,500 buildings. I'm just sitting here watching CNN reporters get blown around like ragdolls.

Thank god it missed us.
We're getting the backass wind of it, and some rain. Gusts up to 40 mph.
I definitely did not want to evacuate again. It's about time Texas got a turn.

Has anyone heard how the size of this hurricane compares with to the Galveston hurricane of 1900? That sucker killed 8,000 people.

I think Ike is a category 2 and the 1900 one was a category 4. I was just looking at this story about the 1900 hurricane on cnn.com:

I read a book about that Galveston hurricane... I can't get the picture out of my mind of the children from the orpahnage drowning with the nuns.
