    Promise Ring?

Hey guys, I've got a quick question for you.
I've been seeing this wonderful girl for about 5 weeks. We are very committed to each other, and we've been moving kinda fast. Funny thing is, we're both very comfortable, honest, open and devoted to each other. I've been in many relationships in the past, but this one is different!

So to sum it up, this is a girl I want to be with for a long time. And we've already been talking about the potential of a future together. We're both still in college, 22 and 20 years old.

My question is... I want to get her a promise ring. She's hinted that she wants one, but it feels a bit high school. What's your opinion on promise rings? Should I perhaps wait longer? It's not an engagement ring, just a simple promise ring, and I think it would make an awesome Valentine's Day gift.

a promise ring huh?? hrmm.. it's not a high school thing, but i feel a promise ring shows a bit of insecurity. promise me that you'll always be by my and never leave me.. how many times have you heard that one before? rings should only be given at marriage, and other than that, just keep it to other jewlery. maybe a nice necklace instead.

    A promise ring...after only dating 5 weeks??

    I don't think so.

Try getting her a necklace, bracelet, earrings etc. And nothing too pricey!

Too be honest i think 5 weeks is too soon for a promise ring. if you want to get her something for valentine day get her a necklace or earring.

promise ring? never heard of such a thing, but I'd tend to agree with illusional.
But, heck, if she wants one, then why are you worried about it being too high school or whatever? What matters is your opinion on it, not mine. As a general rule of thumb, if a girl hints at something like that, right before valentines day, you give it to her unless you personally think it is stupid or you can't afford it.

Promise rings? I thought those went out in the 1950s! Anyway, I think it is WAY too soon for jewelry. Wait until Christmas, and until then, give her some flowers and a little box of candy.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Or if it is in your means, why not give her an intangible gift. Flowers wilt, candy is consumed, and jewelry can be thrown away or forgotten. Stimulate her mind, her soul (and other certain precious parts, if it comes to that) and suddenly you've given her a gift of a memory she can relive anytime she likes. She will definitely thank you in kind when her girlfriends are fretting over a lost necklace or unwanted pounds, wondering "why their boyfriends won't do stuff like that."

Not for 20-22 year-olds who have only been dating a few weeks.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll wait with the promise ring. Picked up some nice earrings, because I really want to get her something nice. Anyway, thanks again!
