Imagination only appears more important than knowledge because so many people lack it.

They are both equally important, though.

Once knowledge is known, its a past event. Far more difficult is to know what you don't know. THAT is the purpose of imagination.

Einstein didn't say this first, FYI. Its mentioned in things like Sun Tsu's writings, including the Art of War. Its a Taoist concept.

Well, knowledge is good but can also be worthless. It isn't much more than memorizing something, but you need thinking, which would include imagination and creativity, to have any use of the knowledge.

"Power is nothing without control" might be the concept here. "Knowledge is nothing without imagination".

Can you imagine dubai, a desert city, is now turn into a next big thing in the world? There is a snow city there as well.. which no one thought is possible..

of course it's imagination, you wouldn't have so much to learn if people before you didn't have imagination, and the cycle goes on, more imagination means more knowledge, without imagination there would be nothing to understand


a person can know lots of things and be well educated but if they can't use the knowledge in an imaginative way then whats the point. Just as much as an uneducated person can have plenty of imagination and no actual knowledge, chances are the uneducated person will be a lot happier and more successful than the knowlegable person, IMO because they see the bigger picture and can see beyond constraints.

I think this is rubbish & the statistics don't bear this out at all. Educated ppl, on average, enjoy a much higher standard of living than those who aren't. Education = knowledge.

Knowledge + Imagination >> than either alone.

Einstein was a pretty knowledgable guy, in case you didn't know this, Eco. And he was pretty happy & successful.

Imagination is very important. I can give you a little knowledge to memorize but I can't help you if you don't have a little imagination. It's difficult to have long stimulating conversations with a person that lacks imagination.
