How do you know if he really likes you?

Ok. I dated this guy when i was 14 ((Im now 21)) We only dated for a summer
n then I broke up with him the first day of school.(stupid reason) But ever
since the day we broke up I been trying to get ahold of him to tell him i
made a mistake.. Its been 7 years now. A couple months ago I added him on
facebook and he just recently started talking to me. (I havent talked to
him since we broke up, he would never talk to me after that, until now).
Anyway, he says he likes me but he says he just dont want a relationship
right now. (he did just get out of a relationship 10 months ago with his
babys mom). My husband and I also just recently split up, so were kinda in
the same field. But this is the thing. When we first started talking he was
texting me all day everyday, Now he just talks when i say something, and
its just like one word. He just acts like he wants me to stop texting him,
but i've asked him and he says I like talking to you. All of his answers
are like weird n its never a straight answer. I just want to know why guys
act all strange like this, he says he likes me but he dont act like he
does.. i'm starting to feel really stupid.

He was talking to you a lot and before he realised or sensed you wanted more....

Now he is aware that you would like more, he's backed off and probably so as not to lead you on and into thinking he likes you as anymore than a friend.

He is not acting strange. He is acting in a way that points to disinterested in a relationship with you and the signs are there as clear as day.

He still talks to you and tells you he likes talking and probably so as not to feel a 'prize twat' and hurt you further.

I agree that if he was talkative before and isn't anymore, he most likely isn't interested. He is already doing quite a bit more than the usual guy by at least replying to you with short answers. My advice is to move on. On a side note, decisions made at a young age usually is regrettable at a later date such as you breaking up with him.

It sounds like he is probably quite busy. But regardless, it's clear he doesn't want a relationship. considering both of your positions, I don't think you should force anything. My advice would be to move on, at the very least unless his actions change. Especially considering the past - guys don't forget stuff like that, and he probably doesn't want any sort of repeat. I think you should move on.
