    hepatitis C

How do people live with it? How can you have sex with your spouse, or anyone in general?

Hepatitis C is an infectious disease affecting the liver, caused by the hepatitis C virus. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact.

I was reading that the following people have it and it scares me shitless:

Pamela Anderson - contracted hepatitis C after sharing a tattoo needle with her ex-husband Tommy Lee.

    Natasha Lyonne of American Pie.

    Naomi Judd.

    Steven Tyler.

People please protect yourself at all costs!

    Prevention

The following guidelines will prevent infection with the hepatitis C virus, which is spread by blood:

    • Avoid sharing drug needles or any other drug paraphernalia including works for injection or bills or straws
    • Avoid unsanitary tattoo methods
    • Avoid unsanitary body piercing methods
    • Avoid unsanitary acupuncture
    • Avoid needlestick injury
    • Avoid sharing personal items such as toothbrushes, razors, and nail clippers.
    • Use latex
condoms correctly and every time you have sex if not in a long-term monogamous relationship

No vaccine protects against contracting hepatitis C, or helps to treat it.

My dad had hep C. He contracted it from a blood transfusion (before there were heavy screenings for it). He was sick a lot, but I know that he and my mom had a great sex life, and he was able to live a relatively normal life. He passed away 4 years ago from an unrelated heart condition.

No need to be sorry. :-) Life happens. Hep C is a very scary disease, and I think its nice you are warning people about it.

How would it spread through sexual contact if its blood-to-blood only?

Sexual transmission of HCV is considered to be rare. Studies show the risk of sexual transmission in heterosexual, monogamous relationships is extremely rare or even null.

    Just for you Dopple!

    The abridged version: The Vagina.....

Seriously though, its common sense that you don't swap blood. Hepatitis C...really? Lets try something more exciting like I dunno, AIDS. This is really no more complicated than washing your hands with soap and warm water after relieving yourself.

You fear your own anger, the drive to do great and terrible things."
