Why is it so hard for girls to just say no?

There are many times in the past in which a girl would do the following:

    1. Left me her number and ignored call/message.

    2. Say she just wanna hang out and tag me along for a few months before I finally break it off.

But not a single girl (who is available) ever told me straight out, "No, I am not interested."

Why is it so hard? Your opinions?

Ideally, I would appreciate it if she just be honest with me.

I've noticed that as well back when I was dating. Girls would always give you their numbers, but then play hot / cold until you feel like ripping your eye balls out. It was sometimes pretty infuriating.

It could be just that she was interested but then after hanging with you she didn't like you... and idk I don't always answer my phone, and expecially if I don't know the number thats calling,

Well if you gave your number to a guy, why would you recognize the number? Anyways, its a ego thing man. You work for the number, they feel wanted, their ego gets stroked.....thats all they wanted.

From my experience there were both actually. Few times the girls were very honest and told me "sorry i'm not interested" ...Weird but i actually liked it more. Up front and honest, nothing wrong with that. I didn't like the ones who just kinda acted interested but than just sort of ignored you later on.

Because that extra X chromosome of ours makes us empathise too much with others.

It hurts us to hurt someone else's feelings.

Not all of us are like that though and as we grow older we become tougher.

You're not going to like any of the answers however they are all true:
-didn't want to say no, and you'd stop talking to her right at that moment.
-wanted the free drink she knew she was getting if she kept chatting you up.
-didn't want to hurt your feelings by out right rejecting you.
-it was easier to say a bunch of numbers, than to say no
-it sucks to watch a guy get rejected and be all down and out for the evening.

sometimes girls think it's easier to let you believe there is something there instead of saying no, I'm not interested. Because that just sounds mean, and girls don't want to be seen as mean.

Ok, for the women out there.

    JUST. SAY. NO. Damn it.

I'm so freaking tired of all this dishonesty, mind games, ego stroking that you all seem so keen on. It's bad. Don't even try to excuse yourselves by saying "ooooh I was just trying not to hurt him". What REALLY happens is that the hurt gets prolonged even further because that little bastard will keep thinking he has a chance. If you just say no, at least it is over on the spot.

Why do you have to force us to read on your actions and guess what your feelings are instead of just being straight and honest?

With my non-girlfriend... she kept telling me that she liked me and that she gave up pursuing other guys for me and all that jazz, but every time I tried to set a date with her she'd avoid the subject and find an excuse. Should I have taken the hint? Probably. I eventually did. Should I have had to look for hints? NO. I wish she had the f***ing guts to tell me "you're an arse, I don't give a crap about you, leave me the hell alone". Hell, I even sent her an email once asking her exactly for that, to dump me once and for all. And in the last times we talked about our non-feelings in this non-relationship, all I got was "I don't know".

    "I don't know".

    Lies.
More like "I know, but I don't wanna hurt you."

    JUST. SAY. NO.

    That's all
Time to stop complaining when there is no reason to. Life's good, man.

Its just the socially acceptable thing to do. Its not that they can't say no, its that its how our society has evolved

The problem is that all of the these things look the same to the mystified guy. Is she playing hard to get? Is she shy? Is she not interested? Did she change her mind? Is there somebody else? Or is she just being nice? Assertive guys will keep trying, so it's just lousy communication that prolongs an awkward situation.
