Why do cell phone companies insist on calling the phones "mobile phones"? Even in hte phonebook part, it's "mobile", "work", "home" etc.?

Everyone I know calls them cell phones; why don't they just conform?

The most appropriate name for the phone is, in fact, a mobile phone. Mobile refers to the fact that it is wireless and portable (obviously) but the cellular term only describes the radio network that provides the phone with its service. If you're specifically talking about the phone itself then mobile is more appropriate than cellular. That's most likely why they choose to use that word.

My two cents...I use the term cell phone too. I think mobile phone sounds stupid.

OFF TOPIC: Zekk - your title under your name says "Goo". This instantly makes me think of "ooze". That instantly makes me think of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". Which reminds me of when I was 8 years old visiting my dad in Los Angeles and I lost my Michaelangelo action figure in the pacific ocean.

My phone is my house is "mobile"- it has no wires and I can carry it around. But it doesn't use the cell towers like my "cell" phone.

That was just my theory on why they used the term. I personally call a wireless landline a portable phone and then I have my cell phone. I'm in agreement with ya, I was just trying to make sense out of it myself.

That was some excellent free association Tone. I used to have tons of Ninja Turtle action figures when I was a kid but my older brother would always chew their heads off in the bathtub.....that always sounds so weird when I look back on it.

I still have all my old ones too, at my mom's house. I remember playing TMNT football with them... LoL I'd setup a whole football game usin my action figures.

LoL Zekk - I remember playin with TMNT in the bath tub... although there was no biting (well except my great white shark action figure the turtles would have to fight against)

Do your guys' have red and black marker on the bottom of their feet, too? So you could tell them apart from playin with your friends.
