    Birthday

Yea, so I've never baught a present for somebody... ever.

Mostly because I'm selfish and cheap.
    And an all-around horrible person.

But yea... anyways... my g/f has a birthday tommarow, and I have to get her something.

    She's turning 18.
...I could buy her porn and cigarettes... she'd find that amusing.

...but seriously, I have to get her something...

Anyone ever done something/gotten something clever besides the usual classic jewelry stuff?

Yea, thats important. For some reason she's under the impression that I am really creative. And I'm not...

...maybe something small I can fit inside a pack of cigarettes just to mess with her... haha...

    A few things:
    - some perfume
    - an article of clothing you KNOW she will like (i.e. an expensive scarf)
    - depending on how much time she spends in the kitchen, a salt-shaker.

Ok, I don't quite understand that one...

...but it would give me the opportunity to say "Shake it like a salt shaker!"

It's not hard to understand. If she spends enough time in the kitchen (cooking), then using the salt shaker would remind her of you

I like the kind of sweet gift you can get your girlfriend (boyfriend?) that's not going to be on a shelf for the rest of the year. Doesn't have to be big so long as it's a reminder that someone loves her. Has worked for me.

How long have you been dating this girl? Cause if it's been more than a month or so, and you'd only be willing to buy her 1 CD, then you really are a cheapskate. If this girl means something to you, try to find something special for her that costs more than $10. And don't do anything w/porn or cigarettes. If she thinks that's funny, fine, give her that. But you better have something else that is a real gift to give her too.

You said something cute and original though, right?

Well, I don't know how long you've been dating her, but a good present tip for anyone is this: If your gf/bf/wife/husband/so's birthday is coming in about a month, go on eBay. Just type in any random word that has to do with you or something that person's interested in and you'll find the coolest/cutest/weirdest/most interesting presents there are.
    I'm drowning in assholes.

take her out to a fancy dinner , have a nice glass of wine , get her a simple bracelet ... gold or silver wichever one she likes ... bracelets are small for women (small wrists) ... so it shouldnt be that expensive ... plus the cd and dinner should be great .

unless your willing to venture in the crazy world of womens clothing and her girly taste in style ...

If you are crafty, you can make her something. I've given nice homemade cards to friends and they liked the cards.

Well, depends on the status of your relationship / how you feel about her and how much into material things she is.

I (and my girlfriend too) feel that the gift doesn't necessarily need to be an expensive one in order to be a great gift. This isn't to say that you should get her something that is obviously cheap (i.e. if you are getting her perfume, don't get her a cheap bottle of it).

Homemade things are very cute, articles of clothing as well, they don't need to be expensive so long as they don't have flaws or anything (or are second-hand, obviously).

The point is, only you know what to get her. This isn't like "what do I get for this party of a guy I don't know, which I got invited to?". This is your girlfriend's/woman's/lover's birthday, and you would know best what her heart desires. WITH my girlfriend (or myself) anything that is unexpensive/useless but is something she has put thought into, or shows something about her feelings or our relationship is a much better gift than a hundred dinners out and expensive jewelry.

You just have to think about her.

And if you know the type of thing to get her but are just out of ideas, well, you're on the Internet man!!! Do something with it.
