    I think the general American idea of Europe is we still live in the middle-ages or smthn......I mean I've talked to many Americans in my time at that souvenir shop, and they were amazed that nobody actually wore clogs over here.....Ah well, not that it really matters, there's lot's of things we us Europeans think of Americans which in reality aren't for real either. I've been to switzerland as well.....Vienna is one of the most pompous cities you'll ever see, but it's rather cold. Rome however breathes history and culture without getting oppresively pompous. Nature in Switzerland is beautiful though.

    though now I look closer, I think it's Amsterdam.....the canal is a bit too wide for Delft

    my experience is, people from abroad have got that movie "the sound of music" in mind, and they expect austrians to be like the trapp family. – i've never known that movie until a foreigner told me.
