How to know if a guy is interested?

I recently went on a casual blind date with someone who is still in college. Our last email exchange was last Friday and he even complemented me in his email telling how cheerful I was and we were planning to meet again during Memorial Day weekend. I waited for 4 days to return his last email and then now it's been over 2 days since I sent him a reply... Well he is a first year PhD student at MIT and he is taking 4 classes and I think he may be doing research also. This week is final project due week and next week is final exam week. Shall I be more patient? If the guy is interested will he really find time to reply? Any opinions to share? Thanks.

I am sure he will reply, give it a few more days, I think he is just really busy with his studies since its close to exam week. Its a good sign that he complemented you in the email. When I am close to exams and getting projects finalised I tend to not be distracted as much, as much as I want to see my gf and be with her we both realise that I have to focus. I think just be patient, he might just be stressed and finding it hard at the moment. Hope that helps

I know an engineer who's great fun AND a good student. The end of year is the most stressful... it's do or die time.

There are two types of guys in the world:

The ones who return your emails/phone calls/whatever quickly and

the ones who take forever to do it.

    I know im the latter

Why did u take 4 days to reply?? U could have sent a casual mail in just a day or two. I think he's just doing the same also. Im sure he will write back.

Also i doubt he is a nerd. There are lots of people whoa re serious about the right stuff but then can be enormous amount of fun aswell. Hopfully he is one of them!

Why did you take three years to reply?

    From my own experience...

If I am exchanging written messages with a girl I am interested to, my instinct is always to write her ASAP. Everything else I'm doing at the moment probably gets a lower priority, unless it is life-threatening or family-threatening.

If such girl replies to me quickly, it definitely makes me feel very positive about her being as genuinely interested in me as I am.

If such girl is slow to reply, I slow down as well as if in a defensive position. I would start doubting she's nearly as interested as me, so I wouldn't want to sound rude with her, demanding, stressing or unpolite. I would adapt to her own speed and try to resist replying too quickly, even if inside me I'm longing for her.
