    Sad songs

Weird request, I know but I seem to have a knack for them. At the moment, I have been listening to:

    So, any recommendations?

I never heard that song, but I really like it. Anyway, you would probably not like my sad songs because I am old.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Dusty Drake - One Last Time

"Oh Lord it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way. I can't wait to look in the mirror, cause I get better loking each day. To know me is to love me, I must be a hell of a man. Oh Lord it's hard to be humble, but I'm doing the best that I can." Mac Davis

Here are a few. I don't know that these are all really "sad" (Louis Armstrong) so much as they make me feel melancholy. Anyway, they are all beautiful.

Janis Ian - At Seventeen (1975)

Simon & Garfunkel - The Sound of Silence

I couldn't find a link to Simon and Garfunkel's Scarsborough Fair (the canticle lyrics are very sad) but I found this:

    Louis Armstrong

Are you giving away your age? Not one, but TWO mentions for Simon & Garfunkel!

I hadn't thought of their music as "sad", so much as cynical, social criticism, or even despairing. (A LOT of it probably reflects Bob Dylan, even the material he didn't actually compose.) Especially the "Bookends" and "Sounds of Silence" albums, more than the later stuff.

Nah, that is the music is technically of my mother's generation, but I still love it. Anyway, I think labels such as "despairing" and "social criticsm" sort of implies it is sad. It makes me sad, anyway.

I like a lot of the music of the late 60s/early 70s specifically because of it's social criticism.
