Chicken catcher... boy, the middle part of our country is funny!
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Good to see you posting. Was wondering if you were okay... the news was bad earlier this week.

We still have the Castaic fire burning and polluting our air (burning, itchy eyes!) but the other two have been put down, thankfully. While the strong winds are very good at spreading the fire, at least they carry the smoke away. Now that the winds have died down, all the smoke pools in our small valley. I might as well start smoking.

I wish they could track someone from residual DNA on the thing. I'll bet that would really cut down on the roadside litter.

I went to the Home Depot interview today.

The first thing I asked was what their full-time scheduling was like. I wasn't surprised, but I was hoping it wouldn't be like other retail jobs. Well, it was. Basically the schedule is set 3 weeks in advance, but people rarely get a whole weekend off.

That's simply not gonna fly with me and Amy.

It's frustrating though. I've been passin' up all of these jobs. All of these jobs I know I could've gotten. Jobs I'm totally qualified for. I'm still waiting to hear about the school job. I should be called by this Friday.

I really hope I get that job.

It would be so perfect for me, as well as my relationship.

Fras, somebody else suggested it, but look into working at a bank. I know you're not into the whole desk job thing, but it can be temporary until you get something better. You'll be working banker's hours. That means no late nights, and if you have to work weekends at all it'll only be early Saturday morning. Plus the pay and respect beats retail hands down.

I might look into it if I don't get this custodial job at the school.

They just put in an ad in the paper (grr, competition!), their application process ends tomorrow. I hope to "God", I get this job. It's killin' me.

I'm still keepin' an eye out for other jobs, but this would would just be so ideal. AND! They're advertising the day shift! 8-4! This is driving me mad!

If you get offered this job & the other doesn't pan out, suggest you go in once more to meet w/the manager. Explain your situation, why you're there, etc. Say you'd be prepared to negotiate for those weekends. Mbe work one w/the other two off or a longer shift (late?) a couple nights a week in lieu of the weekends.

The job market is really hot right now, so chances are the manager will be open to this. Personally, I've had to get really creative w/my company's hiring budget b/c my managers aren't able to hire (or keep) anyone on staff for more than a few month. Irritating, b/c they need to keep retraining ppl which cuts in to their hours, etc.

If you don't ASK, you don't get.

They have to do this, Fras, its a legal requirement that public jobs (school, university, government) are posted, even if they know who they are already hiring. Silly, but that's how it is. Don't worry.

    A new job prospect!

Need two unskilled laborers for a year assisting in general construction.
    10.00 per hour
    Full Benefits
    Mon-Friday 7-3:30pm
Duncan, OK (about 45 minutes away)

I like hard labor, and no doubt I'd learn some shit despite it being "unskilled". 10 bucks an hour with full benefits?? The biggest downside is the 45 minute drive. But I think I'd be getting my hands dirty better than I would with the school job. That's what I'm talkin' about.

Everyone drives 45 minutes (or more) in California to get to work. It's not idea, but I have to imagine that you won't have the kind of traffic we have here...
